Xiaomi 15 series with Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC will be launched on October 13

Qualcomm appears to be changing its naming strategy for its flagship processors. A teaser for the Xiaomi 15 launch suggests that the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be called “Snapdragon 8 Elite”, moving away from the usual chronological naming. The change is similar to how Qualcomm named the Snapdragon X Elite that powers its Windows notebooks.

Previously, it was thought that Qualcomm would keep its numbering system with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. However, the “Elite” name suggests a new approach and may cause confusion due to its similarity to the Snapdragon X Elite name. The Xiaomi 15 is expected to launch on October 23, suggesting that Qualcomm will unveil the Snapdragon 8 Elite before that date.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite is Qualcomm’s first 3nm SoC. The new chip offers a significant 56% increase in GPU performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, which is also expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, was recently tested on Geekbench with a base clock speed of 3. Tested at 53GHz. The peak clock speed is 4.47GHz. The device scored 3011 points in the single-core test and an astonishing 9706 points in the multi-core test.

Further leaks and certifications indicate that the Xiaomi 15 Pro will be launched with 90W fast charging, Android 15-based HyperOS 2.0, and an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. The device is also said to feature a gigantic 6,000mAh battery and IP69 water and dust protection. In addition to the Pro model, the brand is also expected to unveil the standard Xiaomi 15 model on October 23, with the Xiaomi 15 Ultra likely to be unveiled at a later date.
